Guide How to Get Missing Unemployment Payments – NY

Update 9/6/2021: ‘Covid Unemployment is Over’.

<In collaboration with Chaiplus1.com>

Overview

Unemployment works by weeks. It is paid weekly and you need to certify each week in order to get paid for that week.

Many people applied for Unemployment with a backdated claim. For example, if you applied on September 6th but had an effective start date of March 15, then in addition to getting payments from September 6th and on, you can also receive payments from March.

So,  double-check that you received payments for all weeks from your effective start date. If it’s all in order, good. If not, you need to ask the DOL to pay you for the missing weeks.

How to Check if You were Paid for All the Weeks

  1. Log into the Unemployment website (labor.ny.gov/signin).
  2. Click on ‘Unemployment Services’ (See screenshot below)
  3. Click on ‘View Payment History’
  4. The top of the page gives you important information about your unemployment claim.
~ In the screenshot below, even though it has a ‘Start/Effective Date’ of 03/09/2020, the claim actually started March 15th, 2020, one day later than the ‘Benefit Year Ending Date’, less one year (03/14/2021 = 03/15/2020).
~ If you see that your ‘Effective Days Remaining’ are close to “0”, don’t worry. Read ‘Effective Days Down to Zero? Don’t Worry.
  5. Scroll down to see all the payments that were sent to you. Bear in mind that Unemployment weeks are Monday-Sunday. Also, note that weeks are listed in the order that they were paid, not in chronological order.
  6. Here is a short explanation about each column:
    • ‘Week Endings’ is the last day of the week (Unemployment weeks are Monday-Sunday)
    • ‘Total Amount’ is the amount before taxes
    • ‘Net Amount’ is the amount after taxes
    • ‘Effective Days’ is how many days you collected unemployment for that week – 4 days is considered a full week (the $600 payments all show “0” ‘Effective Days’)
    • ‘Release Date’ is the day the Department of Labor sent you the money
    • ‘Type’ will tell you if they sent the money via direct deposit or debit card
  7. In addition to the regular weekly payments, there are 17 potential payments of $600, for the weeks in April-July 2020. Look for week endings 04/05/2020, 04/12/2020 … until 07/26/2020. You should have a $600 payment for any week that you were eligible for unemployment. Then there were six potential payments of $300 for week endings 08/02/2020-09/06/2020, and again $300 payments from week ending 01/03/2021 and onwards.
  8. If you chose to deduct taxes before receiving the money, your payments will be 12.5% less. For example, $182 will be $159.25 net and $600 will be $525.
  9. Check your bank account/debit card: Check your bank statement to confirm that all the payments listed on the labor.ny.gov website were paid into your bank account. It takes a few days for the funds to come through each time.

If you were paid for all the weeks, great! If not, here is what to do:

How to Get Paid for Missing Weeks

  1. Note down all the weeks that you are missing payments.
    • Note:
      • If you worked 4 or more days in a week, you can’t get Unemployment for that week, even if you earned less than $504.
      • If you earned more than $504 in a week, you can’t get Unemployment for that week, even if you worked 3 or fewer days (30 hours or less from weeks after 01/18/2021)
        • Exception #1: If you earned more than $504/week in self-employment, you might still be eligible, if it’s under $504 in net income. (Speak to an accountant if you are not sure.)
        • Exception #2: If you are getting regular unemployment (not PUA) then you can earn more than $504 in self-employment income and still be eligible for that week. Remember though, if you worked 4 or more days in a week you are not eligible, regardless of whether it was regular employment or self-employment.
  2. Certify each ‘missing week’. Certifying means telling the DOL that you were eligible for those missing weeks.

Three Ways to Certify Missing Weeks

There are three ways you can certify your missing back weeks: Call, send a message and Docusign.

1. Call

  • Call the Department of Labor (1-888-209-8124). Once you get through to someone, tell them you want to certify for missing backweeks.
  • See this post for step-by-step instructions.
  • Issue: It’s can be a challenge to get through to someone. Once you get through to someone, it is very straightforward.
  • Update 09/21/2020: If you did not yet certify your August weeks, you should call again and again until you get through to someone and certify via phone. The quicker you certify your backweeks, the better the chances of getting the $1,800 LWA.

2. Send a Message

  • Log into the Unemployment website (labor.ny.gov/signin).
  • Click on ‘Go to My Inbox’

  • Click on “Compose”

  • Choose the subject “Claims Questions” then the next subject detail “Request Backdating of claim/Request to claim benefits for a prior week”

  • Write something like below as a message: Note: Change the bolded section below to match your scenario.

If your scenario is not the same for all the back weeks, might be best to send separate messages for each of those weeks and waiting for the first message to be confirmed and weeks certified before sending a second message. Alternatively, copy and paste the below a second time and change the bolded section for the second message.

To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to please certify for missing backweeks.

1) End date of week (03/15, 03/22, 03/29, 04/05, 04/12, 04/19, 04/26, 05/03, 05/10, 05/17, 05/24, 05/31, 06/07, 06/14, 06/21, 06/28, 07/05, 07/12, 07/19, 07/26, 08/02, 08/09, 08/16, 08/23, 08/30, 09/06, 09/13, 09/20, 09/27):

2) Including self-employment, did you work in that week? If YES, How many days?
NO

2a) Including self-employment, did you earn more than $504?
NO

3) Were there any days you were not ready, willing or able to work? If YES, How many days?
NO

4) Did you refuse any job offer or job referral?
NO

5) Were there any days you were due or received vacation or holiday pay? If YES, How many days?
NO

6) Were there any days you were outside of the United States, a Territory of the United States, or Canada? If YES, How many days?
NO

Thank you very much!

  • Note: If you are on regular unemployment (not PUA) and you earned more than $504 in any of the weeks, then you can change ‘2a’ above to “Excluding”.
  • Issues:
    • Sometimes people receive an auto-response from the DOL. If you get an auto-response from the DOL simply copy your original message, click “reply”, paste your original message and send it again. This should route it to a human being.
    • Lately, the DOL hasn’t been responding to messages. If you don’t see a response within three business days and/or you don’t see your ‘effective days remaining’ go down within a week, then either call or send a new message.

3. DocuSign

  • Anytime you are missing weeks, the DOL is meant to send out an email to help you certify for those missing weeks. Look out for an email from dse@docusign.net
  • Each email gives you the option to certify for up to ten weeks. So if you have more than ten back weeks to certify you should receive a second (or third) email. Look for all the emails; sometimes the emails ‘stack’, like in Gmail conversations, so you might get 3 emails stacked.
  • Issues:
    • Certifying via Docusign only works if you didn’t work any days in a given week. There is no option to respond that you worked 1, 2 or 3 days. UPDATE: If you respond via Docusign that you are not eligible, you should receive another Docusign email which you can use to certify partial weeks.
    • If you were eligible for Unemployment in August but didn’t certify the August weeks, then waiting for the Docusign email to come through might make you miss the deadline and lose out on the $300 a week for the month of August. This is because once the Lost Wage Assistance finishes, you can’t get the extra $300 each week even if you become retroactively eligible. So while waiting for the Docusign email, you can try calling or sending a message, which can get you certified quicker for the previous weeks.

      1. Hello i filled my docusign on 11/3 and 2nd one on 11/7 im still waiting on back payments i have not even received anything saying i was approved for the back payments. My son been out of school since march so i know i qualified for pua but im getting $182 of regular ui im just so confused got my first ui payment in October hoping i can get back payments soon or some type of word if im even gettinh it..tjank you so much for taking time out to help us .

  1. Hello, I read your articles and i think it is great you are providing us with the “fine print” information we are unable to attain from the DOL site. My question is, If you forgot (I was under the impression that I did do it until I signed in and it said I didn’t claim my benefits. I am on PUA) to claim a week (in my case one week in July and one week in Aug), what do you do? I did send an email on 8/21 on the DOL site (but not in your format, just stating the weeks I forgot to claim) but I did not get a response. Then I wrote a letter to the DOL with a copy of my drivers license and last 4 of my soc on Sept 21 (for retroactive pay for those same 2 weeks) but I haven’t gotten a response for that either. What can I do at this point? Thank You

    1. Hi Ludie,
      Thank you for the feedback!
      Two suggestions:
      1) Search your email for dse@docusign.net to see if you are able to certify via DocuSign.
      2) Call 888-209-8124 and ask a representative to certify the missing weeks. See tips on calling the DOL here and here.
      Good luck!

      1. Hello, I wanted to thank you for all of your assistance. I followed your recommendation and was able to get a hold of a clerk and certify for back weeks. They did tell me it would take 2 weeks but 10 weeks at the most since the department is backed up. It has been 3 weeks since and I still haven’t received any notice. But I had another question. Today I signed in and noticed my PUA Benefit Amount has decreased and I have no idea why. I did not receive notice of the change. They did ask me to send in a copy of my taxes a few weeks back and I sent it. Do you have any suggestions why this occurred or how I can figure this out? Thank you again. Happy Holiday!

        1. Hi Ludie,
Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Check your payment history section to see if your effective days dropped (it should go down 4 days for every full week that’s processed). If your effective days did not yet go down, then I would suggest calling again (888-209-8124).
Regarding the decrease, are you saying that your “weekly benefit amount” went down? And if yes, from what amount to what amount?

          1. Hello,
My effective days did go down. They are currently at 0. My weekly benefit amount went from $381 to $191. I did try calling DOL but the automated message said to call back and hung up. Would you be able to inform me why this might have happened? And what I could possibly do to rectify this problem?
            Regards

            1. Hmmmm
What does it show as your “weekly benefit amount” in the top section of your payment history section?
And for the week that you only received $191, how many days does it say in the “effective days” column?

      2. Good morning

I was waiting for my extended claim to kick back up again and it did a month latter but the missing certification payments never came with it so I am behind 4 payments tht I still never received I tried calling and emailing and no reply not sure what to do
        Thank you

      3. Hello I’ve been claiming ui benefits since 5/10/21
And just got approved on 7/19/21 will I get my money for all past weeks claimed thanks in advance

  2. Hello, thank you for the information it was very helpful. I received 3 DocuSign emails filled all 3 out however I only received 10 weeks of back pay is this normal or is something wrong?

    1. Hi Alex,
Great to hear that you found the information helpful!
I think they process each DocuSign form separately (with 10 weeks), so yes, it is normal.
I would suggest waiting a few days and check if your “effective days remaining” went down any further and if they processed your other weeks yet.

  3. If my daughter is currently working she found a job end of July- but was looking from March thru 7/21? Can she get PUA for that time period or it is based on her current job. Also her jobs hours fluctuate like some weeks more hours days and some are full?

    1. Hi Esther,
If she is looking to claim Unemployment starting from March, then it would not be dependent on her work from after 07/21. Did she have any previous employment or self-employment at all? And did any of the jobs for which she was searching, give her a job-offer which she then couldn’t accept (or was rescinded) due to Covid?

  4. Very helpful information on this site; thank you very much!

Months ago my benefit year ended and I filed a new claim. I received the usual new claim mailings, with my weekly benefit determination ($504, same as before) and was instructed to start claiming benefits online, which I did, and have been doing week after week. But to date no benefits have been paid, except for five payments of $300 in mid- to late-September.

When I look at my payment history online, it says I have 104 effective days remaining, with start/effective date listed as 5/25/2020 and benefit year ending date as 5/30/2021. There are no payments listed. Also, “We are continuing to work on your application and are determining the amount of benefits you will receive . . .”

I inquired through the message portal and the reply was that I had used all of my 104 days (clearly untrue, and in contradiction to what the payment history shows).

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    1. Hi Ethan,
Sorry to hear about your troubles!
From the looks of things, you are meant to be getting PEUC from May, followed by 20 weeks of EB.
Your account may be in limbo because the “system” is trying to put you on regular UI, for which you may not be eligible – if you used up all 104 days in your previous benefit year. That may be why the agent responded that you already used up all 104 days.

I think you may need to call the DOL (888-209-8124) and speak to an agent to process your PEUC payments, which should then be followed by EB.

Let me know how it works out.

    1. Yes. When you receive back pay for any of the weeks between the week ending April 5 and the week ending July 26, you should automatically receive $600 for each of those weeks as well.

  5. Thanks. I dread calling, but I guess it’s unavoidable. Meanwhile, I got a secure message from DOL, after I had inquired again, which simply said:

“Looks like it is still under review for extended benefits.”

Maybe that’s a sort of non-committal way to say essentially what you said.

I will post again when/if anything develops.

    1. If your account is working as it should, then it should take approximately a week.
A few questions to check if your Unemployment account is “health”:
      – Are you receiving Unemployment payments for current weeks?
      – Are your “effective days remaining” going down each time your certify?
      – Did your “effective days remaining” drop substantially over the past few days? If yes, that would mean that your DocuSign weeks are in the middle of being processed.

  6. I have a question, I am missing 3 out of 4 days for 1 week I certified for. I did not work or anything yet I only received 3 days of benefits. I am also missing 1 day in the very beginning of my claim benefits. By emailing the DOL with the instructions you have given, would I be able to get those funds?

  7. Hello thank you for the information
i have a Question ,On my payment history by the “start/ effective date ” it states 6/15/2020 although on the pua application i stated that last day of work was in march (I applied in Aug) i have received back payments only from 6/28 /2020 and on . what can i do to get payed for april and may? Thanks

    1. Hi David,
In order to have your claim backdate to March (instead of June), you need to contact the DOL and tell them that your last day of work was in March and you would like to backdate your claim.
You can try via Secure Message, but I think you should call as well.

    1. Hi Chan,
      You are most welcome!
I assume that your regular weekly benefit amount is $182. Yes?
Two possible explanation that I can think of:
      1) You were eligible for only one day (e.g. you worked three days).
      2) You had only 1 “effective day” remaining. Read more about this here.

  8. Hi Thanks for all the info
on the PUA application form online there was certification for each week is it enough or i still need to certify for back weeks?

    1. Hi David,
Sometimes it works, but usually, that certification is not enough.
I would suggest waiting a few days and if your effective days don’t go down, call the DOL.

  9. Hello, I had to start a new thread. There wasn’t an available “reply” button to answer your questions:

What does it show as your “weekly benefit amount” in the top section of your payment history section?
And for the week that you only received $191, how many days does it say in the “effective days” column?

My weekly benefit amount is $191. I haven’t gotten paid for it yet. I noticed the change on Wed the 25th. On Mon, the 22nd it was the original amount of $381. Therefore, I do not have the “effective days” amount for the $191 yet. I will not know until it is released. Which most likely will be early next week. My last pay out was on Nov 15th for $381. My “maximum amount payable” was originally just under $10k. When I noticed the change on Wed it was a little over $7k. I checked yesterday and it was back up to $10K but the “weekly benefit amount” remained the same $191. I hope my explanation was clear to follow. Thank you for your time and assistance. I hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Ludie,
I would suggest you call the DOL (888-209-8124) and ask them what happened.
Your Weekly Benefit Amount is meant to be: Your gross earnings from 2019 divided by 104. So a $381 Weekly Benefit Amount should be based on ~$39,624 gross earnings from 2019 and a Weekly Benefit Amount of $191 should be based on ~$19,864 gross earnings from 2019

  10. Hello I do have question
So if i did my certification for back pay on phone and after 3 4 weeks …i didnt get nothing and everytime i called they told me im being process then i send email to them and got docusign and i filled again for back pay it wouldnt mess anything up for me is it?

    1. Hi Mo,
I don’t think completing the Docusign will cause any issues.
Have you been getting your weekly payments (besides for the backpay)?
If a week passes from when you signed your docusign and your effective days remaining don’t go down, then call again and ask to speak to a supervisor (tier-2 or tier-3 rep).

      1. Hello again thanks for all your help
And yes so i sign yesterday and today my effective days went from 84 to 44 whats that even mean?that mean that i been approved?

        1. If your effective days remaining dropped from 84 to 44, that most likely means that they started processing 10 full weeks of pay, as each week equals 4 days and the DOL usually processes 10 weeks at a time.
Check back today/tomorrow to see if they processed the payments (seen on the bottom of the payment history page).

  11. Hi there,
I went to see my relatives in India a month before pandemic lockdown started, and got got stuck in india for almost a year due to lockdowns and flight restrictions. I thought of applying for ui from there but it was not allowed. Now i am back here in United States on early dec. I applied for ui which i did qualify and got paid for last 2 weeks.
Is their any possibility that i can get my ui and pua since march? On my account uy says effective date march 15, 2020 and ending march 15, 2021.
    Thank u.

    1. Hi Tenzin,
You can try calling the DOL and getting permission to file for the time that you were stuck there, but I’m not sure if that would work.
      Best of luck!

  12. Hello and thank you for all of the excellent information that you shared. I recently filled out my docusign emails for the weeks back in August. I live in New York.

Are all of the extra $300 payments from back then already exhausted?
    Did I miss that opportunity?
Thank you for any help you can offer!

  13. Hi Michael,
    You are most welcome!
Good question – I am not sure if there are any LWA funds left.
You will just have to wait and see…
    Best of luck!

    Hello there,
I have a question regarding my husband’s unemployment benefits that we saw zero of even though they were approved. He filed for unemployment benefits in October with the starting /effective date of 03.09.20 and ending day 03.14.21. We have seen nothing so far of any payments even though the claim was approved. My husband keeps claiming each week but there has been no change and it shows “0” in the history as well… please help!
    Thank you!!

  15. I was receiving bennifits while working pt plus extra $300. continued to certify as of this date 2/14/21 i have not received last few pymts since 1/31/21, and no responce as to why. i became eligible after como allowed pt work to be counted. thank you

  16. I was able to back-certify with the help of a rep on the phone. How long before I get paid for the missing week though?

    1. Home Unemployed

      Hi Tom,
Hopefully, you got it already. If it still is not reflected on your payment history page, you might want to follow up.

  17. Hi and thank you for all the information.

I apply for UI on Feb, 2021 My Start/Effective Date is 11/30/2020, will I still get the $600 extra or no?

  18. I completed three Docusign forms for partial unemployment assistance dating back to July 2020-January 2021. I’ve received some of the payments for some weeks in October, November, and December, and January but not for all of the weeks I filled out. (For example I received payment for only 2 weeks in October and only 1 week in November.) I worked the same amount of hours for all of the weeks I requested payment. How do I know if these other weeks have been approved and if I should expect payment?

    1. Home Unemployed

Check your payment history page and if it’s still not listed there, then I think you should call the DOL.

  19. Hello!
I got my payment yesterday and i Catify today and my effective days didn’t change. I’m I going to wait still tomorrow

    1. Home Unemployed

Not sure I understand. You got your weekly payment and the effective days remaining still shows as 104??

  20. my last day of work was may 20 2020 I received my docu sign email about 3 weeks ago I got paid from 2/14 /2021 through 12/15/2020. Shouldn’t i be getting another docu sign email by know for more back pay.

    1. Hi Jean,
If you are still missing those back payments, check if you received more than one DocuSign email. Sometimes they get stacked together, so it looks like just one email, when really there may be a few.

  21. I am receiving $504 plus the $300. The week 3/22 to 3/28 I did certify on line but when I went to print it, the screen closed on me. I usually print the Certification. Now I am missing that week. I sent a Secure Message with the wording as you suggested. Should I also call them? What number should I use? Thanks.

    1. Home Unemployed

      Hi Dorothy,
If you still have not received the payment, I think you should call the DOL: 888-209-8124

  22. Hi there. I’m hoping that you have some advice…My husband filed for UI at the end of December 2020. He originally became unemployed in October with his last week worked ending 10/18. With that being said, we jumped through what seemed like a million hoops in order for him to get paid. Had to send copies of License, SS Card and Birth Certificate…Didn’t have a SS card because it was lost 30 years ago. Applied for a new one (in January, still hasn’t arrived lol). He was told he absolutely would not be paid without it. A month of trying to speak to a different representative later, A nice man spoke to his supervisor who approved our marriage license as yet another proof of Identity. We finally got paid several thousand dollars that dated back to his original application dated 12/29/20. Fast Forward to March, he received and I completed and sent a docusign for the missing weeks between October and December on March 4th. 3 weeks later he was able to get a rep on the phone who said it would take up to 45 days ” but never takes that long”. Informed him there is NO DIRECT NUMBER to contact the office that takes care of that. Here we are, April 20th and still no back pay in sight. He’s called a million times and hasn’ t gotten a person on the other end. We haven’t received any further emails by any means. There has to be a way to get ahold of someone who actually knows something as “Brianna” literally was silent on the telephone for approximately 2 minutes after she told him that there literally isn’t a phone number for that department!!! We’re past the 45 days that “it never takes” here and we are struggling financially to say the least. I certify his benefits online every Sunday and he’s gotten normal benefits every single week since. It would just be nice to get those 9 ish weeks of back pay to help catch up some things!! Any advice would be appreciated!! (We’re in NY State, by the way. Not NYC but way Upstate lol)

  23. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get through on the NYDOL phone number. You wait 10 minutes, going through all the menu items, and eventually it says “we are having extremely high call volume, call back” and ends the call. Every single time. Probably called about 15 times so far, not once was I able to even hang on the phone to speak to someone. They hang up on you and tell you to call back.

I had also sent an e-mail message to DOL about certifying for a previous week and got no response.

    1. Hi Jeff,
      I wish I had a quick-fix for you.
Try dialing 9 as soon as the system picks up, at least you can avoid all the recordings.

  24. Brittany Darrow

I received 3 emails from DOL to eSign 3 papers about missing or back pay I was eligible for 10 weeks I currently get 111 and the 300 so does that mean I will get 10 weeks of back pay including the 300??

    1. You should get the $300 for any week that had the $300 option.
So, for example, if you certified for weeks in December 2020, you will not get $300 for those weeks, as there were no $300 payments for December 2020. If you certified for Jan 2021 and on, then yes, you should receive the $300 payments.

  25. Ty for informative website.
My unemployment ended 3/21/21. I recertified.
After seven weeks , finally just received current week of unemployment. Why dn they pay the in-between weeks? I continued to certify !
    Help!😪

Hi- Thanks for the helpful guide. Quick question, is there any reason why I wouldn’t see my email requesting back pay in the sent folder? When I tried to redo the email I got this message:

“If this is a second request to your original message, please do not submit. This will cause further delays in responding to all inquiries. All messages are answered in the order in which they are received.”

I am not sure if the original email was ever sent and really do not want to delay a response from DOL. Thoughts?

  27. Hi HOME UNEMPLOYED,
So I filed my claim recently on 5/08/21 and my first payment gets released on 5/14/21. It’s 300+182. On my payment history page I saw the first line structured like this:

Week Ending Total Amount Net Amount Effective Days Release Date Type
    12/06/2020 $0.00 $0.00 4 05/11/2021 Last week worked

Does this mean I will get back paid from the week ending 12/06/2020 for both PUA(182) and FPUC(300)?
If so, do I need to manually claim the back pay via Send a message/phone or is it automated deposit I just have to wait? If it’s automated how long would it take to get my back payment?

    Thank you so much!

    1. Hi,

We are all the same. Did you send that kind of message described as above and get all the backdated payment?

      Thanks
      Erich

I had the week of March 23rd returned by my bank I’m not sure how that happened as the previous weeks and the weeks after that one I’ve gotten it deposit to same account never changed anything. How long before I get that payment sent out again to my account from March 23rd and was returned March 26th..

    1. Did you ever figure this out??? I had the same exact thing to a T including the same dates.

Let me know I have tried everything.
      Thanks
      -J

    1. It took them a week to get back to me after I sent the email. I’m still waiting for the backed up payment.

  29. I have the same problem, they initially owed me 16 weeks of back pay, they finally paid me 3 weeks of it when they started my claim in the beginning of may but I applied back on jan. 17th. they split up the payments of Jan. 17, 24th and Apr. 4th. I haven’t recieved any of the other payments. I call every 2 weeks and get a different response every time I know it’s not “the system”, when they can manually put in for the missing weeks, I’ve programmed my own websites and servers in ITT Tech. Why is it taking 5 MONTHS for them to issue my back payments. My account is in working order and am able to certify every week and get paid for them currently. I’m sick of them giving a different excuse every time I call. They tell me to call back in 2 weeks if nothing changes and it never changes. They say there ar 5 million other applicants to process. I’m worried about my claims not 5 million others although they need to get their payments also. They put a note in to expidite it but still nothing ever changes. Pls. HELP!

  30. I have not received anything since March when I qualified for more unemployment. You cannot call its absolutely ridiculous to try and reach anyone there and there is something wrong with there email system I can’t get through that way as well. This is a terrible situation. Does anyone have advice please or maybe someone can help me I sure would appreciate it.

  31. Thank you for this page. My son was able to get through on the phone and the man (representative) was able to certify his missed weeks for 2020 thru 2021 when he was employed. There were many weeks.

We have not see the results yet since it was done today but we are very hopeful.

I wanted to pass this a long since we previously tried the submission process in Feb 21 and faxed it but to no avail.

    Soooo appreciate the information.

  32. Hi Thanks for this resource! Do you know the process for requesting an earlier start date for my PUA? The current start date is actually a few weeks later than my last actual day of work. Is it too late to do this?

  33. I was unable due file for unemployment for a number of weeks due to being in a mental health program where I couldn’t use the internet or phone, can I still call or write a message in reguards to these missing payments?

  34. My husband never received payments for his claim he was certifying each week for from April 1 2021 to the third week through June 2021. He found a job the last week of June 2021. Please advise, as we will not be able to pay our bills off of my income alone. I have depleted our savings in 2020 when he lost his job the first time. The same company brought him back on and then let him go again due to the pandemic. Please help!

  35. I certified for weekly benefits with the week ending on 8/15/2021 that Sunday, but my payment has not been released yet.. anyone know why that is?

  36. Hi!

I’ve been waiting on my back payment since July and I signed the docusign moths ago. I’ve tried calling the number every morning but it’s always busy and unable to get me through. Hopefully this message I’ve sent helps because unemployment is over next week.

  37. Society’s Undesirable Wonder Boy

Hello and thanks for the information. I’ve applied for UI, I did the phone ID interview twice and I was told that I was approved. It’s been over two months now, and they keep giving me the run around. They won’t even allow me access to my online UI account. They tell me to enter my social, when I do, they say I signed up with a different username, which happens to be the same username that I was using all along lol. Then when I go back and renter my info to access my online UI account, they hit me with the “you’ve attempted to sign up too many times, call this number.” So I call the numbers and they generically send me back to nyc.gov to sign in and start to whole cat & mouse game again. Is there anything that I can do??? I’m owed back pay from last year and this year, and I haven’t received any payment at all. Also if I’m out on workmen’s comp from a job, can I get UI from them, even if I haven’t worked for them since 2019? Thank you

  38. Hi
My son received an email November 2020 that his claim was now ready to be paid. Received a letter stating he’ll receive$182 weekly pua benefits. . Thn received a letter to id verify. We are in NYC but he was born Massachusetts so we couldn’t get his birth certificate because of the shut down. One worker for UI told him to reach out to the states department of health to get a copy ,after months he finally received it. He sent it in and still nothing to this date. How can he fix this? Is it too late? He’s owed from march 2020 to march 2021 when he finally found a part time job. What can he do to finally get all of the benefits he is owed?

    1. Hi,

This happened to me as well. Then I noticed I couldn’t even see my payment history. Also, I received a letter stating that my claim had ended. YOU NEED TO CALL. It turned out they didn’t press a simple button to finish my claim. Call them until you get a answer from a representative.

  39. Hi, I became eligible for UI and PUA in 12/2020, due to miscommunication I didn’t start claiming until April, I recieved DocuSign last Thursday (along with a one week payment I’m unsure why) I filled out 2 emails and was told I was eligible for 20 weeks. I was just wondering if you know why I possibly recieved a payment last week and when I should expect my retroactive payments. Thank you for helping all of us!

  40. I have a question regarding backpay payment schedule. Note, The process over the phone for back-certification DOES work, I suggest doing it over the phone with an agent. I back-certified for 6 months worth of payments, as I wasn’t made aware my claim was approved. It took 5 weeks until I received back-payments, but only received 2 months worth of the 6 months due. Are the back payments done in multiple batches of payments, or was the entire amount due supposed to be paid at once?

  41. Unemployment has been giving me miss guided information about my funds that I have been waiting for since July 18, 2021 to November 21, 2021, They told me that they sent over a confirmation to Key Bank to unblock my card but when I spoke to Key Bank they said Unemployment never sent a confirmation over to them. So I been calling Unemployment and Spoken to Numerous of Supervisors & Representatives and was told again FALSE INFORMATION. I have done the Video ID.ME, I sent unemployment proof of Address and they already have my Birth Certificate and Social Security card. I do not understand why aren’t unemployment being honest or why haven’t they sent Keybank any confirmation. Can someone answer this message. I was suppose to start college but due to me not able to pay for the supplies I needed or the transportion to get around “I will have to start the next Semester in January.”. Unemployment I also notice that your haven’t answer many of other people comments can your answer mines.
    Thank You

  42. I stop working completely last year october when i was layed off. During the nyc shutdowns in march of 2020 i was also layed off working about 2 day a week threee days sometimes and lesst then 30 hours. I was not aware during the time in march i couldve been claiming for benefits due to lack of hour because of covid 19. Anyway i sent tje message requesting my claim be backdated to march. They replied with a message stating it could take up to 6 weeks to process. Today makes 6 weeks since i sent the message. So i sent another one and received a message talking about nys dept of labor is useing docusign. Does this mean my backpay is approved and how long does it take to receive the docusign email. Ive been kicked off of unemployment since sept5 2021. I filed a new claim but it is still pending. My monetary letter says i didnt make enough for a new claim. At tjis point im just confused

  43. The DOL still owes me money from 2020! I missed 14 weeks of work because I had Covid, but I only got benefits for 7 weeks. I kept certifying, but it stopped showing up on the website. I called to find out why I did not get all of my benefits, and why the website was not updating my information. Like other people have complained, it is totally impossible to speak to a person on the phone. I have been calling for over a year! They don’t reply to the secure messages on the website either. I have even sent a letter to the “Contact by Mail” address in Albany, it has been 4 months and I have not received a reply yet. Something is very wrong at the DOL, I guess I will have to seek legal action.

  44. HI There! I would love your help.
I lost my job at the start of covid and my severance ended on 4/30/2020.
I began collecting unemployment at that time as I searched for a new job.
I began a part time job at the end of October 2020, ending 25 weeks of unemployment and that position ended in June 2021. I. was a self employed consultant at that time. I write today because I submitted a claim for unemployment for my remaining 14 weeks and it was denied. The reason for denial was that our records show that in the base period indicated below you do not have the required employment and earrings to establish unemployment insurance claim. My last basic base period was 2nd quarter of 2020, this excludes my self employed consulant info. I see above that you can file unemployment if you make more than $504 which I did but not five days of work. What is considered a day as this was not a full time role? Any help on how to get this resolved would be really appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

  45. Hello I dont know of anyone still see this stuff but my fiance is owed over 11 thousand from unemployment and she hasn’t gotten it. It was processed in October 2021. Does anyone have any tips or ways we can get through and get her money? Thank you in advance
