Related Post: Today is Not the Last Day
A few people have asked if it’s too late to apply and if those who already applied should stop certifying their weeks.
No. Unemployment has not finished. PUA has not finished either.
First, a basic overview of unemployment payments:
- Regular Unemployment (UI): The regular weekly amount you are getting if you are eligible for unemployment from your state.
- PUA: Regular weekly amount funded by the federal government (which you get if you are not eligible for unemployment from your state).
- FPUC: Additional $600 weekly payments from April-July. The $600 is on top of the regular weekly payments from regular unemployment or PUA.
So what did finish?
Besides for the regular unemployment and PUA weekly payments, an additional $600 (FPUC) was added for all weeks during April-July. As we are now in August, there is no $600 for the weeks from the beginning of August.
Keep in mind two things:
- If you apply now and your last day of work (or the day your work was affected by Covid-19) was before the end of July, you should still get the additional $600 for all the weeks from your eligibility date until the end of July.
- There will likely be an extension of some sort of extra weekly payments (to replace the $600). It may be less than $600. And when it goes into effect, it might be retroactive to the beginning of August too. I will update about as soon as things are confirmed.
To clarify: The extra $600 finished but the state amount and PUA did not finish.
